Phoebe! Phoebe! Phoebe!
It’s lovely to hear this sweet bird calling from the other side of my window. She speaks one word. Her name. It is the sincere, truthful and purposeful language this bird has been given to say. What will I say today? Will my words mimic the Phoebe?
Paul reminded the Ephesians as he reminds all who follow Jesus to let our new natures show. “Don’t use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them.” Ephesians 4:29 I love how The Message says the same verse, “Say only what helps, each word a gift.”
It’s not easy to guard our tongues in a world where people allow their speech and feelings to run rampant. It’s tempting to join the chorus of negativity. But, you and I are called to speak with sincerity, truth, and love.
Let’s do it that today. Let’s do our best to be Phoebes. God has given each of us a voice. Let’s use it in a beautiful way for His purposes.
